Whites comprise 9% of the population but earn 45% of the household income.  Africans comprise 79% of the population but earn only 41% of household income.  Almost 20 million people live in households that spend less than R800 per month.
Any social compact must focus on employment because 99% of poverty is caused by unemployment
There is a need to revive the community consultation and dialogue that existed in the days of the anti-apartheid struggle, which included a sophisticated system of community involvement.
Renewable energy technologies are the most sustainable long-term solution and they create jobs for far more people than other methods of energy generation
